500 Books Before Middle School

Attention K-6 graders! This Reading Challenge is for you!

Join our astronaut friend, Sky, on the mission to read 500 books before Middle School!

This mission is an ongoing, self-paced reading challenge for all elementary-age students. There is no starting or end date and registration can be done anytime throughout the year. The goal is to read 500 books of your choice and completing the mission before entering Middle School. That may seem like a big number, but you’ve got plenty of time. Reading just 2 books a week equals 104 books in a year, so don’t feel rushed, just enjoy the experience!

How does it work? Let’s ask Sky!

“First, sign up with Beanstack.”
Beanstack is an online platform used for reading challenges where readers can log books, track their progress, earn virtual badges, and receive book recommendations.

“Then, read books of your choice.”
Read any books you want on your reading level. Listening to audiobooks and reading with a friend/parent/teacher all count towards the 500 book mission!

Log your books and earn virtual badges and prizes!”
When you finish reading a book, log it in Beanstack. For every 25 books read, you will earn a virtual badge and a small prize. When you have read 500 books, you will receive a certificate of completion, a prize, and will also have your name inscribed on a book plate in a chapter book in the children’s collection!

Why participate?

“Why not? Reading is an important skill! Plus, you’ll meet my extraterrestrial friend, Zeek!”

The more you read, the stronger you will get at reading and the more you’ll love to read! Did you know that reading will ultimately help with everything from math and science to art and music? It’s true!

The best part of this mission is reading whatever you want and getting fun prizes!

Sky and Zeek will encourage you as you earn badges along the way!

“Want to make logging books super easy? You can use the Beanstack Tracker app!”

If you have a phone or tablet, you can download the tracker app, use its camera to scan a book’s ISBN barcode, and your book will be logged into Beanstack! Click here to learn more about the Beanstack Tracker app.
